How accessible is Ryerson is a project created by fourth-year journalism students Richa Syal and Jacqueline McKay. The idea for this investigation started after both students realized how minimal the coverage on students and faculty with disabilities on Ryerson media outlets was. After speaking to students and staff, the duo decided to explore how accessible Ryerson truly is. Each story on the site allows readers to answer that question for themselves.

McKay is an experienced journalist versed in all mediums of reporting such as broadcast radio, TV, print and digital. She has specializations in multimedia documentary reporting and broadcast radio. She has worked as a chase producer for CBC’s flagship current affairs show The Current, and has a passion for audio story telling.

Syal is passionate about the intersection of journalism and code. She is experienced in both, and strives to report and develop stories that work well on the digital platform. Syal has worked for the Interactives & Multimedia team at CBC.ca, where she has bylines for both design & development, and national reporting.

Syal and McKay have also previously created an award-winning multimedia documentary called Seeking Asylum, which explores the individual stories of five refugees and how their displacements from Syria lead them to the GTA.
